Broadway Plus celebrates its Fifth Anniversary with a record-breaking year including more than $1M in payouts to Broadway performers
New York, NY (August 10, 2021) – August 2021 marks the fifth anniversary of Broadway Plus, the first and only company to fulfill and promote official VIP experiences for Broadway shows, a distinction that holds true today. Founded in 2016 by Nathaniel Hill, Broadway Plus quickly gained the attention and support of the theatre and concierge-travel industries as a much-needed link between the two. Since its launch, the company has grown into a category-defining one-stop-shop that offers a myriad of exciting opportunities for fans to connect with Broadway “beyond the ticket,” both virtually and live in New York City. At the start of the Broadway shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Broadway Plus made a swift pivot to virtual programming, which led to significant growth in reach and revenue. The company expanded its staff to more than 20 professionals, relocated its headquarters to a central location above the new Drama Bookshop in the Theater District, and became a licensed Group Sales Agent.
“I started Broadway Plus with the goal of helping Broadway’s best fans access amazing experiences that I dreamed about as a kid. In the last five years, it has been incredibly rewarding to watch the business grow from an idea into an entire ecosystem in which people can connect with Broadway in a variety of ways that enrich their lives while supporting Broadway artists. Since our quick ‘pivot to virtual’ in March of 2020, we’ve booked thousands of experiences for fans around the world, and paid out over $1 million to Broadway artists. I’m incredibly proud of my team for their innovation and tireless work throughout the pandemic, and grateful for every artist and fan who chooses to work with Broadway Plus,” said Nathaniel Hill.
“Broadway Plus listens to its artists,” says Broadway Plus artist and two-time Tony Award nominee, Alex Brightman. “They work with you to ensure your experiences – be it lessons, masterclasses, Q&As, or even something niche like collaborating and designing a fan’s tattoo – are well-handled, expertly-managed, and a breeze. You show up, do your thing, and they do theirs.”
“From our executive leadership and all our employees, we are so grateful for all the wonderful events we’ve been able to produce with Broadway Plus. Our group has truly loved every single event, it has been such a wonderful way to bring everyone together during quarantine as we enjoy and celebrate Broadway. We truly enjoy working with the Broadway Plus team and can’t wait for our next event” said Ti-Shea Meadows, Vice President of Operations, Channel Planning, and Culture at MTV Entertainment.
Over the course of the past five years, Broadway Plus has worked with more than 150 luxury and travel partners to offer VIP group experiences for their top clients and highest-performing employees, and more than 250 corporate clients to fulfill more than 1,000 bespoke events. To date, Broadway Plus has served more than 20,000 loyal customers.
Prior to the pandemic, Broadway Plus offered a wide variety of in-person VIP experiences in partnership with such acclaimed shows as Chicago, Wicked, Kinky Boots, Rock of Ages, and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, as well as meet and greets with 2021 Tony Award nominees Tom Hiddleston (Betrayal) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Sea Wall / A Life). Broadway Plus provided these productions, and others, with a streamlined and efficient service that coordinated and promoted VIP packages in their theaters, and offered actors an equally professional service that helped connect with students and audiences directly.
In-person experiences included meet-and-greets, private coaching sessions, group masterclasses, Q&As, concerts and events, and VIP packages that bundled the best seats in the theater with backstage tours and cast interactions.
During the pandemic, Broadway Plus pivoted their in-person concierge platform to offer online engagement opportunities for fans and artists alike. In addition to being able to book one-on-one experiences like virtual shoutouts, meet-and-greets, Q&As, private coaching sessions, and master classes directly on the artist’s personal profile page, Broadway Plus offered custom virtual events for private clients and over thirty Fortune-500 companies, including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Coldwell Banker, Morgan Stanley, and dozens of top law firms. Popular events include virtual concerts, group Q&As, and career-building workshops.
In early 2021, Broadway Plus acquired Artists & Beyond, a collaborator and fellow leader in the virtual booking space for Broadway performers. Artists & Beyond founder Tyce Green is now a partner in Broadway Plus. The acquisition, in concert with continued artist engagement and outreach, has grown the Broadway Plus roster to boast more than 600 Broadway performers from multiple Tony and Grammy Award-winners to the most exciting rising stars. Some of the most-requested artists include two-time Tony Award nominees Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice, School of Rock), Mandy Gonzalez (Hamilton), Laura Bell Bundy (Legally Blonde), Taylor Louderman (Mean Girls), Christy Altomare (Anastasia), and Laura Osnes. On the client-side, Broadway Plus is the preferred vendor of multiple Virtuoso travel agencies and a member of NYC&Co and the IGLTA. Broadway Plus concentrates its charitable efforts with Make-A-Wish New York, as Broadway Plus Founder Nathaniel Hill serves on the organization’s Junior Board and has helped to grant dozens of wishes each year.
As Broadway performances resume, Broadway Plus will move forward with a hybrid in-person and virtual business model for all experiences and resuming exclusive opportunities to connect with Broadway artists under COVID-safe conditions, and launching VIP package offerings with new shows including SIX and Doubtfire.
