Elphaba in Wicked

Carla Stickler

Carla Stickler is a professional multi-hyphenate advocating for the inclusion of artists in STEM. Currently a software engineer, she spent over 10 years performing in Broadway musicals, most notably as Elphaba in Wicked, Sophie in Mamma Mia! and Liesl in The Sound of Music. She also has a masters degree in theatre education from NYU and taught on the faculties at Marymount Manhattan College and Molloy College/CAP21.

She is a champion for artists looking to make a career shift into tech and a member of Artists Who Code. Carla is passionate about reframing the narrative of the “starving artist” by encouraging artists to learn new skills that can provide them with stability alongside their creative endeavors. When we choose to walk away from a full-time pursuit of the arts it does not make us failed artists. The possibilities for what we can do and who we can be are unlimited.
