Hadestown

The Walter Kerr Theatre is a historic Broadway venue with a rich legacy. Designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp, it opened in 1921 as the Ritz Theatre, featuring an Italian Renaissance style with gold leaf and Italian scrollwork. The theatre was originally built by the Shubert family as a sister theatre to their Ambassador Theatre on West 49th Street and was constructed in a record sixty-six days. Over the years, the theatre has served various purposes, including stints as a radio and television studio from 1943 to 1965. In 1990, after a full restoration by Jujamcyn Theaters, it was renamed in honor of Pulitzer Prize-winning drama critic Walter Kerr. With a seating capacity of approximately 945, the Walter Kerr Theatre has hosted numerous acclaimed productions, contributing to its enduring status in New York City's vibrant theatre scene.
