About the show

About

After sold-out runs from coast to coast, _Swept Away_ storms Broadway October 29.
When a violent storm sinks their whaling ship off the coast of New Bedford, Mass., the four survivors face a reckoning: how far will they go to stay alive? And can they live with the consequences? With music and lyrics from The Avett Brothers (“America’s Biggest Roots Band,” _Rolling Stone_), whose 2004 _Mignonette_ was inspired by an 1884 shipwreck and the struggle of four men to survive, _Swept Away_ is an electrifying, soul-stirring new musical exploring how facing tragedy can open the door to forgiveness…if only we’ll let it.
From the chart-topping folk-rock band The Avett Brothers comes “a spellbinding tale” (_The Washington Post_) of shipwreck, salvation and brotherhood set on the high seas. An odyssey of “mythic proportions” (_San Francisco Chronicle_), _Swept Away_ features a book by Tony Award®-winner John Logan (_Red_, _Moulin Rouge! The Musical_), direction by Tony Award-winner Michael Mayer (_Spring Awakening_, _American Idiot_), and choreography by Tony Award nominee David Neumann (_Hadestown_).

Longacre Theatre

The Longacre Theatre, established in 1913, is a historic Broadway venue named after Longacre Square, the original name for Times Square. Designed by architect Henry B. Herts, the theatre features a French Neo-classical-style exterior and a Beaux-Arts-style interior, reflecting Herts' appreciation for European design. The facade is adorned with Corinthian pilasters and intricate terra-cotta detailing, while the interior boasts ornate plasterwork and a coved ceiling. Over the years, the Longacre Theatre has hosted a diverse array of productions, contributing to its enduring legacy in New York City's vibrant theatre scene.
