Eugene O'Neill Theatre

The Eugene O'Neill Theatre is a historic Broadway venue with a rich legacy. Designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp, it opened in 1925 as the Forrest Theatre, named after 19th-century tragedian Edwin Forrest. The theatre was originally part of a hotel and theater complex, featuring a facade of brick and terracotta to complement the neighboring hotel. In 1945, it was renovated and renamed the Coronet Theatre, and in 1959, it was renamed again to honor the esteemed American playwright Eugene O'Neill, becoming the first Broadway theatre named after a playwright. The theatre's interior is adorned with Adam-style detailing, a large balcony, and box seats within decorative arches, creating an intimate and elegant atmosphere. With a seating capacity of approximately 1,108, the Eugene O'Neill Theatre has hosted numerous acclaimed productions, contributing to its enduring legacy in New York City's vibrant theatre scene.
