Pirates! The Penzance Musical

About the show

About

Ramin Karimloo, Jinkx Monsoon, and David Hyde Pierce lead the crew in **_Pirates! The Penzance Musical_**, this must-see Roundabout reimagining of _The Pirates of Penzance_. Scott Ellis (_Doubt; Kiss Me, Kate_) directs and Warren Carlyle (_Harmony; Kiss Me, Kate_) choreographs with a hilarious new adaptation by Rupert Holmes (_The Mystery of Edwin Drood_), musical direction by Joseph Joubert (_Caroline, or Change_), and orchestrations by Joubert and Daryl Waters (_Memphis_). Gilbert & Sullivan’s pirate ship docks in New Orleans in this jazzy-bluesy vision of the crowd-pleasing classic, in an outrageously clever romp sizzling with Caribbean rhythms and French Quarter flair. With the tongue-twisting Major General, the rabble-rousing Pirate King, newly-imagined young lovers, daring daughters, footloose pirates and fleet-footed police, there's a shipload of musical comedy delights on board to dazzle first-timers and G&S aficionados alike.

Todd Haimes Theatre

The Todd Haimes Theatre, originally known as the Selwyn Theatre, opened in 1918. Designed by architect George Keister, it was commissioned by the Selwyn brothers, prominent theatrical producers of the time. The theatre originally showcased major musical and dramatic productions but transitioned to a cinema in the 1930s. After decades of varied use, including a period as a grindhouse, the Roundabout Theatre Company undertook a significant restoration, reopening the venue in 2000 as the American Airlines Theatre. In 2024, it was renamed the Todd Haimes Theatre in honor of Roundabout's late artistic director and CEO. Today, the theatre continues to host acclaimed productions, maintaining its status as a cherished Broadway venue.
