Broadway Composer, Lyricist, and Playwright

Drew Gasparini

Drew Gasparini is the funniest guy we know, and our go-to recommendation for fans looking for expert feedback on the script or song they’re working on! Drew has been commissioned to develop a number of new stage musicals including the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of The Karate Kid for Gorgeous Entertainment (book by screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen), It’s Kind of a Funny Story for Universal Theatrical Group (book by Alex Brightman); Night Shift for Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures (book by Babaloo Mandel & Lowell Ganz); The Whipping Boy (book and co-lyrics by Brightman); and We Aren’t Kids Anymore (a song cycle). Other writing projects include the infamous, award-winning Super Bowl publicity stunt Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical starring Michael C. Hall (book by Will Eno, lyrics with Nathaniel Lawler, directed by Sarah Benson); Everything in its Place: The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers, a one-man-show starring Marc Summers, and Make Me Bad (both with Alex Brightman); Crazy, Just Like Me (2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival “Best of Fest”); Turn of the Screw and #UntitledPopMusical (both with Michael Kimmel); and songs for Hit List on the NBC television series SMASH. Connect with Drew to take your craft to the next level, and be sure to ask about his bestie Alex Brightman!

Pop Song Interpretation - Group Seminar $200 / 60 Minutes

From the Golden Age to now, theater has always and will continue to always be influenced by what we hear in popular music. Modern hit shows like Dear Evan Hansen,  Jagged Little Pill, Hamilton, Spring Awakening, Beetlejuice, and many others prove that the gap that needs to be bridged is musical theatre and music under the “pop” umbrella: pop, pop/rock, indie, folk, etc. Drew has a unique perspective on this from being a singer/songwriter, and sharing the stage with acts such as Jason Mraz, Third Eye Blind, The Plain White T’s, signing a publishing deal with Concord Music, and also writing commercial Broadway shows such as It’s Kind of a Funny Story and The Karate Kid. In this group session, Drew offers a unique look at pop lyric interpretation, theatrical performance of pop material, and choosing songs for your audition book. He describes it as “a masterclass on what they don’t teach in most theatre programs around the country, and certainly a good way to get a leg up on what understanding you need to have.” This is one of our favorite group sessions available on Broadway Plus!

Script Consultation $225 / 60 Minutes

For this experience, Drew will read up to 150 pages of your script in advance, so that you can discuss it together. He’ll provide expert feedback based on his years of workshopping new material in the industry, and ask the questions that will help bring your piece to the next level. Be sure to email your script to us at concierge@broadwayplus.com after booking!
